November is the last month of autumn in the Northern Hemisphere. In Venezuela, a country located just north of the Equator, it is still a
hot and moderately rainy month, however, the rains are decreasing and the dry season is approaching.
The
temperatures are high especially in the extreme north-west, the least rainy area (see Maracaibo, Coro and the Paraguaná peninsula) and in the inland areas of the center-north (see San Fernando de Apure, Ciudad Bolívar), where the daily average is around 29 °C (84 °F). However, on the hottest days, the temperature can reach or exceed 35 °C (95 °F) almost everywhere, at least at low altitudes.
The
rains are abundant in the southeast, in the macro-region called Venezuelan Guayana, occupied by the forest, and in particular, in the extreme east, in the area of the Orinoco delta, and in the extreme south, in the Amazon rainforest (see San Carlos de Río Negro). Instead, in the llanos, in the savannah area (see San Fernando de Apure, Ciudad Bolívar), the rains are already quite rare.
On the northern coast and on the Caribbean islands, the rains are still moderate, because we are at the beginning of the period in which the north-east
trade winds blow, bringing rainfall because the sea is still very warm. Actually, November and December are generally the rainiest months in the Leeward Antilles, both in the Venezuelan ones (see Los Roques, Isla Margarita), and in those belonging to other countries (such as the ABC islands).
In the Caribbean Sea we are also at the end of the
hurricane season, which can affect the extreme north of Venezuela, although more rarely than in the central-northern Caribbean.
The
sea is warm enough for swimming.
