May is the last month of spring in the Northern Hemisphere, which in Venezuela, a country located just north of the Equator, is the warmest season. May is generally a
very hot month, and it is the hottest of the year in the far north, where the rains are still rare (see Caracas, Barcelona, Güiria), while in the rest of the country , where the rains are by now frequent, the temperature decreases a little compared to the previous months, even though at the price of an increase in humidity.
However, when it doesn't rain it can get very hot, and the temperature can reach and exceed 35 °C (95 °F).
The
rains are frequent and abundant in the areas with an equatorial climate, in the south, in the Amazon forest (see San Carlos de Río Negro), and in the extreme east, in the Orinoco delta area, but also in the west, in the mountains (see Mérida).
In the center-north, in the llanos, the rains are already quite frequent and abundant, even though the rainiest period is the summer, from June to August.
In the far north, on the other hand (see Coro and the islands of the Caribbean Sea), the rains are still rare and not abundant.
The
sea is warm enough for swimming.
