November is the last autumn month in Turkey, and it is already quite cold on the plateau, especially at night, while on the coasts it is mild, especially on the southern coast. Rains are quite frequent everywhere.
On the plateau, the
average temperature is 6.5 °C (43.5 °F) in Ankara, at 900 metres (2,950 feet), 6 °C (43 °F) in Cappadocia (see Kayseri), just above 1,000 metres (3,300 ft), while it is lower in areas at higher altitudes (see Erzurum, Van). On the Black Sea coast, the average is 12 °C (53.5 °F) in the western part (see Istanbul), and 13 °C (55.5 °F) in the eastern part (see Trabzon). On the coast of the Aegean Sea (see Izmir), the average is around 13.5 °C (56 °F), while on the southern coast, it is of 16 °C (61 °F) in Antalya, and reaches up to 17/18 °C (63/64 °F) in the eastern part (see Mersin, Alexandretta).
Sometimes there can already be
cold waves, although less than in winter, during which it can rain with very low temperatures in Istanbul, especially in the second part of the month, while on the plateau there can be be snow and frosts, down to -8/-10 °C (14/18 °F) in Ankara and Cappadocia, and -15 °C (5 °F) in the eastern part.
As regards to
rainfall, the rainiest period of the year begins in November and will last until January. On the plateau, rainfall is quite frequent but not abundant. Instead, on the coasts the rainfall is abundant in some areas (see Izmir, Antalya), above 100 millimeters (4 inches), and even very abundant in the easternmost part of the Black Sea coast, for instance in Rize, where 245 mm (9.5 in) fall in the month and on climate is almost oceanic.
