Cuenca, where it's located




The climate of Cuenca is slightly continental, with quite cold winters and hot, sunny summers.
The city is located in the central-eastern part of the Spanish plateau, in Castile-La Mancha, at an altitude of 950 meters (3,115 feet), and 130 km (80 miles) southeast of Madrid.

Winter, from December to February, is quite cold, with sunny days, but also rainy periods. Average temperatures are not very low, but at night it often gets cold.
Also, there may sometimes be very cold periods, and it can even snow.
On the coldest nights of the year, the temperature generally drops to -6/-7 °C (19/21 °F), but during the coldest winters it can drop to lower values. The coldest record is -18 °C (-0.5 °F) and dates back to January 1971. In February 1965, the temperature dropped to -14.5 °C (6 °F), while from 2000 to 2020, the lowest value was -11.5 °C (11.5 °F) in January 2005.

The summer, from June to August or mid-September, is hot and sunny. There can be torrid days, even though the air is dry, so the heat is more bearable. Also, nights are quite cool.
On the hottest days of the year, the temperature typically reaches 37/38 °C (99/100 °F). The heat record is 39.5 °C (103 °F) and was recorded in July 1981 and August 2012.

Best Time


To visit Cuenca, you can choose the month of May and the period from mid-September to mid-October, although it can rain and it can get cold at night. Those who can stand the heat can even choose the summer, but they must be prepared to stroll around the city in very hot weather.
