The climate of Ciudad Real (and of the neighboring city of Miguelturra) is slightly continental, with quite cold winters and hot, sunny summers. The rains are quite scarce, however, they are a little more frequent in spring and autumn.
The city is located in the central-southern part of the Spanish plateau, in Castile-La Mancha, at 630 meters (2,065 feet) of altitude.
The average temperature of the coldest month (January) is of 6 °C (43 °F), that of the warmest month (July) is of 26.7 °C (80 °F). Here are the average temperatures.

Winter, from December to February, is quite cold, with sunny days, but also rainy periods. Average temperatures are not very low, but at night it often gets cold, and in periods of good weather, fog can form (especially in December and January).
Also, there may sometimes be very cold periods, and occasionally it can even snow.
On the coldest nights of the year, the temperature generally drops to -5/-6 °C (21/23 °F), but during the coldest winters it can drop to lower values. The coldest record is -14 °C (7 °F) and dates back to January 1971. In February 1956, the temperature dropped to -10 °C (14 °F), while from 2000 to 2020, the lowest value was -9 °C (16 °F) in January 2005.

The summer, from June to August or mid-September, is very hot and sunny. There are long periods with scorching temperatures. In July 2015, the average high was 38 °C (100.5 °F). In July 1945, the temperature reached 44 °C (111 °F). More recently, it reached 43.5 °C (110.5 °F) in July 2017, and 42.5 °C (108.5 °F) in August 2012 and in late June 2019.

Best Time


To visit Ciudad Real, you can choose the month of May and the period from mid-September to mid-October. Those who can stand the heat can even choose the summer, but they must be prepared to stroll around the city in very hot weather.
