The climate of Cáceres can be defined as Mediterranean, even though the summer is particularly hot.
The city is located in the southwest of Spain, in Extremadura, 450 meters (1,475 feet) above sea level.

The winter, from December to February, is mild, with sunny periods alternating with rainy periods.
It rarely gets very cold, and on the coldest nights of the year, the temperature usually drops to -2/-3 °C (27/28 °F).
Occasionally, there may also be short cold spells. The cold record is -6 °C (21 °F) and was recorded in February 1956. In January 1985, the temperature dropped to -5.5 °C (22 °F), while from 2000 to 2020, it dropped to a maximum of -4.5 °C (24 °F).
Snow in Cáceres is very rare, because when it is cold, there are no bad weather conditions, while the wet currents from the Atlantic are also mild. However, snow fell in February 1983 and January 2010.

Summer, from June to mid-September, is very hot and sunny, with very rare rains, although it is a little less hot than in Badajoz and Mérida due to the slightly higher altitude.
Highs are usually about 33/34 °C (91/93 °F) in July and August, however, there are periods of scorching heat. On the hottest days of the year, the temperature normally reaches 39/40 °C (102/104 °F).
The highest temperature is 43 °C (109.5 °F) and was recorded in July 2017. In 2016, it reached 42.5 °C (108.5 °F) in early September.

Best Time


The best times to visit Cáceres are the months of April and May and from mid-September to mid-October, to avoid the summer heat, although in these periods it can sometimes rain. Those who can stand the heat can also choose the summer, but they have to be prepared to stroll around the city with scorching heat.
