April is a spring month in Canada.
In the vast Arctic and Subarctic areas of the center-north, in the provinces of Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut, the temperature is still below freezing (see Alert, Inuvik, Yellowknife). Hudson Bay (see Churchill) is still frozen.
In the south, on the contrary, where the main cities are located, the average temperature exceeds freezing. However, it can still get very cold and snowfalls can occur, especially in the first half of the month.
Precipitation (rain or snow) is weak in the vast cold areas of the center and north, where it often still occurs in the form of light snow. In the inland areas of the southwest, in the Great Prairies (see Edmonton, Calgary, Regina), rainfall is still quite weak, however, it is slightly increasing compared to previous months.
In the west, on the coast of British Columbia (see Vancouver), the rains are frequent, however, they decrease a little compared to the previous months.
In the east (in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland, see Saint John's, Halifax), where temperatures increase slowly, also because a cold current flows on the Atlantic Ocean, precipitation is still frequent, and it can still snow, especially at the beginning of the month.
However,
the days are getting longer, and in the north, even though the ground is still covered with snow, there is already a good amount of sun.
Furthermore, during the month, in the inland areas of the south, the first very mild or quite warm days can occur, with highs above 20 °C (68 °F), and sometimes 25 °C (77 °F).
