November is the last month of spring in Australia, and it is a hot month in the north and in the arid and desert inland areas, quite warm on the east coast, and very mild in the south. Rainfall is moderate to heavy in the north and on the east coast, while it is rare on the west coast, and very rare in the arid areas.
In the
tropical north, November is a very hot month in the Top End of the Northern Territory (see Darwin), and somewhat less hot on the north-east facing coast of northern Queensland (see Cairns).
On the
east coast (see Brisbane, Sydney), it is a quite warm month, and gradually cooler as you proceed south.
In the
Outback, the vast arid or desert inland area (see Alice Springs, Oodnadatta), the days are very hot, sometimes even scorching, and the sun shines, while nights can still be quite cool.
In the south, in the areas where the climate is Mediterranean (see Perth, Adelaide), it is a quite warm month, with rare rains.
In the
south-east, in the areas where the climate is oceanic (see Melbourne, Tasmania), the temperature is now very mild or pleasantly warm, but the weather is variable, sometimes even cold and windy, and with quite frequent rains.
As regards to the
temperatures, the daily average is 29.5 °C (85 °F) in the Top End of the Northern Territory (see Darwin), and 27 °C (80.5 °F) in northern Queensland (see Cairns) and in the desert areas south of the tropic (see Oodnadatta, Meekatharra). On the east coast, the average is 22.5 °C (72 °F) in Brisbane and 20.5 °C (69 °F) in Sydney, further south. In Perth, on the south-west coast, the average is 20 °C (68 °F), while it drops to 16.5 °C (61.5 °F) in Melbourne, in the south-east, and to 14.5 °C (58 °F) in Hobart, Tasmania.
In the arid and desert inland areas,
heat waves can occur, during which temperatures can reach and exceed 45 °C (113 °F). More rarely, the hot wind can reach the central-southern coasts, bringing temperatures up to 35 °C (95 °F) and above.
Instead, in the south, air masses of Antarctic origin can bring
cold at night, especially in the first half of the month, with lows below 5 °C (41 °F), and close to 0 °C (32 °F) in the capital, Canberra.
In the warm season, central-northern Australia, especially the coasts, can be affected by
tropical cyclones. However, in November cyclones are rare, in fact, the cyclone season in this area begins on November 15th.
In November, the
sea in Australia is warm enough for swimming in the center-north. In the tropical north it is very warm, on the east coast it is quite warm approximately up to Coffs Harbor (south of Brisbane), on the west coast it is very cool in Perth, while in the south (see Melbourne, Adelaide, Tasmania) it is decidedly cold.
