July in Argentina is the central month of winter and the
coldest month of the year. In the north, crossed by the Tropic of Capricorn, the climate is very mild even in this period, in fact the average daily temperature is around 17 °C (62.5 °F). However, in the Andes it is cold, and at night the temperature drops below freezing.
In the center-north, in Rosario and Buenos Aires, the climate is mild, in fact the average is around 11 °C (52 °F). In Patagonia the temperature is a little lower, but it is still relatively mild, since the average is 6/7 °C (43/45 °F), however, the wind often blows, increasing the feeling of cold. In the extreme south, in Tierra del Fuego, it is decidedly colder, in fact the daily average is generally 1/2 °C (34/36 °F), and snowfalls are frequent.
Sometimes, in the north it can be hot even in this month, in fact the temperature can reach or exceed 30 °C (86 °F).
Instead, in the central-south, but sometimes even in the north, there can be
cold waves, during which it can snow in Patagonia, and the temperature can drop below freezing, by a few degrees in the Pampas, and down to -10 °C (14 °F) and even below in the southern part of Patagonia and in Tierra del Fuego.
The
rains are very rare or completely absent in the northwest and in the northern part of the Andes, where winter is the dry season, while they are moderate in Buenos Aires and Tierra del Fuego, and relatively frequent but quite scarce in quantity in Patagonia. Precipitation is quite abundant only in the north-east (see Posadas, Iguazu Falls) and in the central-southern part of the Andes (see Bariloche), where it often occurs in the form of snow.
In the central and southern part of the Andes, there are resorts where you can ski.
In the south the days are quite short, and in the extreme south the day lasts about 8 hours.
