Climate in Phan Thiet (Vietnam)

Phan Thiết has a tropical climate, hot all year round, with a dry, slightly less hot period from December to February and a hot, muggy and moderately rainy period from May to October.
The city is located on the southeast coast of Vietnam, in Binh Thuan province, at nearly 11 degrees north latitude. Ho Chi Minh is about 150 km (95 mi) to the west.
Nearby is the locality of Hàm Tiến, beyond which are Hon Rom and Mũi Né, the latter famous for its sand dunes. Mũi Né is located on a small peninsula, so it is windy, in fact kitesurfing is practiced there.



We are in the least rainy and sunniest area of Vietnam, in fact, rainfall slightly exceeds 1,000 mm (40 inches) and there are 2,900 hours of sunshine per year. This happens because we are in an area where the coast is exposed to the southeast, and therefore is not directly affected by either the southwest or the northeast monsoon.

The winter, from December to February, is warm, in fact the January average is 26 °C (79 °F). Unlike in central-northern Vietnam, there are no cold air irruptions here, and generally, on the coolest days, there are minimum temperatures of 18 °C (64.5 °F) and maximum temperatures of 28 °C (82.5 °F).
In spring, the temperature gradually increases. In April, it is very hot, but it is still the dry season. In April and May, the temperature can sometimes reach 37/38 °C (99/100 °F).
From May to October is the rainy season, however, the rains are generally not very abundant, moreover, there may be periods of a few days without rain, although it depends on the year.
The city can be hit by typhoons, the tropical cyclones of the western Pacific. In southern Vietnam, typhoons generally occur from October 15 to December 20, with a maximum in early November.
In January, and again from mid-March to mid-April, some tropical depressions can occasionally form, generally off the central-southern coast of Vietnam, but they almost always dissipate over the sea before reaching the coast. However, they can cause abnormal waves. Anyway, sometimes they can reach the coast.

The best time to visit Phan Thiết is December to April, since it is the dry season.
It must be said that in April it can be very hot. Furthermore, until December 20th a typhoon is still possible, so the period from late December to late March may be preferred.
