Climate chart - Nha Trang
In Nha Trang the climate is tropical, with a relatively cool winter from December to February and a hot, muggy summer from May to September. As for the rains, there is a dry season from January to April and a rainy season from September to December due to the northeast monsoon. Instead, as in the rest of the central coast, the summer monsoon brings little rain.
The city is located in the south-central part of the coast of Vietnam, in the province of Khanh Hoa, at 12 degrees north latitude. All around are mountains that exceed 1,000 meters (3,300 feet), reaching 1,850 meters (6,070 ft) to the west (in Hon Ba nature reserve).
A short distance from the coast we find some small islands including Vĩnh Nguyên.
The closest cities are Ninh Hòa to the north and Cam Ranh to the south, both on the coast. Instead, about 80 km (50 mi) to the southwest, in the interior, we find Da Lat.

Nha Trang

The winter, from December to February, is warm, in fact the January average is 24.5 °C (76 °F). Unlike in central-northern Vietnam, there are no cold air irruptions here, however, there can be days with minimum temperatures of 17/18 °C (63/64 °F) and maximum temperatures of 23/24 °C (73/75 °F).

From April to August, humid heat prevails, with winds from the sea and quite rare rains. Sometimes it can be very hot, although less than in central-northern Vietnam. However, sometimes the temperature can reach 36/37 °C (97/99 °F).

In this area, where the coast begins to be exposed to the south-east, precipitation drops below 1,500 mm (60 in) per year. In fact, the only rainy period in Nha Trang is from September to December.

The sun in Nha Trang often shines for a long period, from February to August, and for a total of 2,500 hours a year.

The sea is warm enough for swimming even in winter.

The city can be hit by typhoons, the tropical cyclones of Southeast Asia, and it should be remembered that the coast is the area most at risk. Typically, typhoons pass in this area from late April to late June (more rarely and generally not strong) and from the beginning of September to 10 December.

Best Time

The best time to visit Nha Trang is January to March, as it is the coolest period within the dry season.
In theory, you can also go from April to August, even if it can be very hot, and in any case the humid heat usually prevails. However, one can find refuge on the beaches of the area.
