Climate chart - Da Nang
In Da Nang (or Danang), a city located on the central coast of Vietnam at 16 degrees north latitude and crossed by the Han River, the climate is tropical, with a relatively cool winter from December to February and a hot, muggy summer from May to September. As for the rains, there is a dry season from February to April and a rainy season from September to December due to the northeast monsoon. Instead, as in the rest of the central coast, the summer monsoon brings little rain.
About 20 km (12 mi) southeast is the city of Hội An.
A short distance from the coast are the Cham Islands, which are part of the Cu Lao Cham nature reserve.
Off the coast, about 350 km (215 mi) away, we find the Paracel Islands (also called Xisha or Hoang Sa), disputed between China, Taiwan and Vietnam. On these islands, the rainy season runs from June to November.
To the north of the city are mountains that exceed 1,000 meters (3,300 feet) in height, while to the west are the Bà Nà Hills, a hilly area overlooking the city and the sea, reachable by cable car and 1,479 meters (4,852 ft) high.

Da Nang

In winter, from December to February, average temperatures are 22/23 °C (72/74 °F), however, there can be cool periods, in which the maximum temperature remains around 17/18 °C (63/64 °F), sometimes even in March. In December 1999, there was a day with a minimum of 9 °C (48 °F) and a maximum of 15.5 °C (60 °F).

On the other hand, from March to October it can get very hot, and from April to August, the temperature can reach 39/40 °C (102/104 °F). As we have said, in the summer the monsoon has limited effects in this central part of Vietnam, which is why there are long periods of very hot weather. In 2021, the average maximum in June was 37.2 °C (99 °F), and from May to August there were 15 days with a maximum of 40 °C (104 °F).

Precipitation in Danang amounts to 2,150 mm (85 in) annually, with a maximum in October and November.

On average, in Da Nang there are nearly 2,200 hours of sunshine per year, with a maximum from May to July.

The sea in Da Nang is warm enough for swimming all year round, although it drops in February to 23.5 °C (74.5 °F).

The city can be hit by typhoons, the tropical cyclones of Southeast Asia, and it should be remembered that the coast is the area most at risk. Typically, typhoons pass in this area from late April to late June (more rarely and generally not strong) and from the beginning of September to 10 December.

Best Time

The best time to visit Da Nang is from late January to mid-March. The last rains associated with the monsoon occur in the first three weeks of January, which are not abundant in this period, but in some years they can be.
Starting from mid-March it can get very hot. From May to August, the rains are not abundant and the sun shines quite often, but it is often very hot. However, one can find refuge on the beaches of the area.
