Climate in Caracas (Venezuela)

The climate of Caracas (or Santiago de León de Caracas) is tropical, tempered by altitude, with a dry season from January to March and a rainy season from May to November, while December and April are transitional months.
The city is the capital of Venezuela and is located in the north of the country, in the valley of the river Guaire, at the foot of the Venezuelan Coastal Range (Cordillera de la Costa), beyond which lies the Caribbean Sea. The highest mountain in the cordillera is Pico Naiguatá, 2,765 meters (9,071 feet), although the closest to the city center is Mount El Ávila, from which the national park that protects this mountainous area takes its name. On the coast, we find cities such as Maiquetía, where the Simón Bolívar International Airport is located, and Caraballeda.
Most of Caracas is located at an altitude between 850 and 950 meters (2,780 and 3,115 feet), although some areas reach up to 1,400 meters (4,600 feet). The temperatures shown below are measured at the Generalissimo Francisco de Miranda air base, in La Carlota, at 835 meters (2,740 ft) above sea level, at the lowest and therefore warmest point of the city.
From November to February (traditionally in the Advent period), fog can sometimes form, which can give a feeling of coolness, or relative cold, to the inhabitants of the city. The phenomenon is locally called Pacheco.
Caracas lies in the southernmost part of the trajectory of hurricanes, which can sometimes affect the north coast of Venezuela, although more rarely than in the central and northern part of the Caribbean. However, it cannot be ruled out that a hurricane or tropical storm can bring strong winds and abundant rains here as well. The hurricane season runs from June to November, although they are more likely from August to October.
