The climate of Midland is subtropical semi-arid, with quite mild winters and very hot, sunny summers.
The city is located in western Texas, that is to say the arid zone, at 880 meters (2,885 feet) above sea level, and is windy and exposed to clashes between air masses which cause sudden changes in temperature.
The average temperature of the coldest month (January) is of 7.6 °C (46 °F), that of the warmest month (July) is of 29.1 °C (84 °F).
Precipitation amounts to 345 millimeters (13.5 inches) per year.

Midland

In winter, from December to February, the days are quite mild, but at night, the temperature drops a lot.
In addition, every now and then, there may be cold spells and snowfalls. On average, 11 cm (4.5 in) of snow fall per year. On the coldest days of the year, the temperature drops to around -10 °C (14 °F), but sometimes even to lower values. The record is -24 °C (-11 °F), recorded in February 1985. In February 2021, the thermometer touched -19 °C (-2 °F).
On the other hand, air masses from Mexico can bring the temperature to 25 °C (77 °F) or above even in the middle of winter.

The summer, from June to September, is very hot and sunny, with some thunderstorms. Despite the altitude, Midland is a particularly hot city. Sometimes it can get hot even in late April and in October.
On the hottest days of the year, the temperature reaches 40/42 °C (104/107.5 °F). The record is 46.5 °C (115.5 °F), set in late June 2000.
In 2020, the temperature reached 38.5 °C (101.5 °F) in late April, 40 °C (104 °F) in early May, 44 °C (111 °F) in July, and 36.5 °C (97.5 °F) on 10 and 11 October. But in late October there was an early snowfall.

From April to June (and more rarely in autumn), tornadoes can develop (although we are in a relatively sheltered area, as tornadoes develop more easily in east-central Texas).
