sub-tropical, with a very mild winter and a very hot, muggy summer.
The city is located in southern Texas. Beyond the Rio Grande River is the Mexican city of Nuevo Laredo.
Even though the winter is mild, sometimes there can be cold periods, with highs below 10 °C (50 °F). Very rarely, as happened on Christmas 2004 and in December 2017, it can even snow. However, from November to March there are often sudden changes in temperature, and it can get warm even in the middle of winter. In summer, on the other hand, the heat reigns supreme, and the maximum temperatures can reach and exceed 40 °C (1004 °F).
From time to time, the city can be reached by the remnants of a hurricane, coming from the Gulf of Mexico or the Pacific. In general, hurricanes weaken when they penetrate inland, however, they can still bring abundant rains. The hurricane season runs from June to November, although they are more likely from August to October, with a peak in September.
