The climate of Lviv (or Lvov) is moderately continental, with very cold winters, in which the temperature is often below freezing, and pleasantly warm summers.
The city is located in the west of Ukraine, not too far from the border with Poland, and at an altitude of 280 meters. We are in the historical region of Galicia.
Precipitation is more abundant than in the rest of Ukraine, and in winter it often occurs in the form of snow, while the wettest period is from May to August, when it can occur in the form of thunderstorm.
Winter is cold and gray. In periods of stable weather, fog can form.
Sometimes there can be cold spells from Siberia, which were once more frequent and during which the temperature can drop to -20 °C (-4 °F) or even below. The coldest record is -29.5 °C (-21.1 °F) and was set in February 1956.
In summer, temperatures are generally pleasant and are suitable for outdoor activities, although rains and thunderstorms can sometimes occur.
Every now and then, there can be hot periods, usually of short duration, during which the temperature can reach or exceed 32/33 °C (90/91 °F). The records are around 35 °C (95 °F).
