The climate of Edirne is
slightly continental, with quite cold winters and hot summers.
Edirne (the ancient Adrianople) is a city of 180,000 inhabitants located in western Turkey, in the European part, called Eastern Thrace, on the banks of the river Evros (or Maritsa).
Precipitation is not abundant, with a maximum from October to January and a relative minimum in summer, when there can still be some thunderstorms.
In
winter there are some mild periods, with highs of 15 °C (59 °F) and above. However, there can also be cold periods, characterized by snowfall, and even cold waves, during which the temperature can drop to -15 °C (5 °F). The coldest record is -19.5 °C (-3 °F), set in January 1954.
