Climate chart - Diyarbakir
The climate of Diyarbakir is continental, with relatively cold, rainy winters and very hot, sunny summers.
The city is located in the south-east of Turkey, 675 meters (2,215 feet) above sea level, in upper Mesopotamia; it is crossed by the Tigris River and is considered the capital of Turkish Kurdistan.

In winter, there may be periods characterized by cold and snow. During the most intense cold spells, the temperature can drop to -15 °C (5 °F) or even below. In December 2006 it dropped to -23 °C (9.5 °F).
