Average weather, temperature, rainfall, sunshine hours
The climate of Bodrum (in ancient times Halicarnassus) is
Mediterranean, with mild, rainy winters and hot, sunny summers.
The city is located in southwestern Turkey, on the coast of the Aegean Sea, at 37 degrees north latitude. Nearby are Greek islands such as Kalymnos and Kos.
Even though the
winter is mild, sometimes there can be cold periods, with lows around freezing or slightly below, and highs of 7/8 °C (45/46 °F). Very rarely, it can even snow.
The
summer is particularly hot, hotter than the Aegean islands which receive the
meltemi, the north wind that blows in this season. Typically, the temperature does not drop below -3/-4 °C (25/27 °F), but in February 1983 it dropped to -6.6 °C (20 °F). Furthermore, there can be heat waves, with highs of 40 °C (104 °F) or more. The highest record is 46 °C (115 °F).
