The climate of Antalya (or Adalia) can be defined as
Mediterranean, given that the winters are mild and rainy, and the summers hot and sunny. However, the summer is particularly hot, while in winter the rains are very abundant.
The city is located on the southern coast of Turkey, on the gulf of the same name, at almost 37 degrees north latitude. We are in the area called "Turkish Riviera".
To the south-west is the Western Taurus (or Lycian Taurus) chain, with Mount Kizlar Sivrisi, 3,086 meters (10,125 feet) high, from which warm, föhn-type winds can descend. To the east of the mountain, and near the coastal city of Kemer, lies Olympos Beydaglari National Park.
Even though the
winter is mild, sometimes there can be cold periods, with lows around freezing or slightly below, and highs of 7/8 °C (45/46 °F). Very rarely, as happened in January 2022, it can even snow.
In
summer, as mentioned, temperatures are very high, furthermore, there can be heat waves, with highs of 40 °C (104 °F) or more. The highest record is 45 °C (113 °F).
