The climate of Iringa is subtropical, tempered by altitude, with a rainy period from December to April and a cool, dry period from May to August. In October and November, before the rains, the highest temperatures of the year are recorded.
The city is located in south-central Tanzania, at 1,600 meters (5,250 feet) above sea level (although the airport is located at 1,425 meters or 4,675 feet).
To the west is the Ruaha National Park, where the altitude ranges from about 700 to 1,200 meters (2,300 to 3,900 feet). To the east is the Udzungwa Mountains National Park, where the altitude ranges from 400 to 2,400 meters (1,300 to 7,875 feet).
