Climate chart - Nuwara Eliya
In Nuwara Eliya, there is a subtropical mountain climate. There is no real dry season, however, there is a relatively dry period from January to March, while the wettest months are October and November.

Nuwara Eliya is a city of 27,000 inhabitants, located in the center of Sri Lanka, in the Central Province, at 1,900 meters (6,235 feet) above sea level and almost 7 degrees north latitude. We are on a plateau near Mount Pidurutalagala, formerly Mount Pedro, 2,524 meters (8,281 ft), the highest peak in Sri Lanka.

In winter, from December to March, it can get cold at night, with temperatures dropping to 5 °C (41 °F) or below.
On the other hand, from June to August, the period of the southwest monsoon, days can be cool, around 15 °C (59 °F), also, it rains often and the sky is often cloudy.
However, the rainiest period, as is generally the case in Sri Lanka, goes from October to December.

Sri Lanka is in the path of tropical cyclones. Typically, on the Indian Ocean north of the Equator, cyclones occur from April to December, although Sri Lanka is usually only affected in November and December, and more rarely in May. In fact, usually in mid-May, sometimes there can be heavy rains, caused by cyclones that form in the Bay of Bengal, even if they are at the beginning of their life. However, since the sea is warm all year round, in theory they can also form from January to March, perhaps in a light form (such as tropical storms).

Best Time

The best months to visit Nuwara Eliya are February and March, as they are the driest months of the year, although, as mentioned, it can get cold at night.
Around mid-May, as mentioned, a cyclone can form over the Bay of Bengal, which can bring heavy rains to the whole of Sri Lanka, which can cause landslides and floods in the central and mountainous areas. So this period, more or less from May 10 to 20, can be avoided.
The worst time is from October to December, as it is the wettest.
