Climate chart - Kandy
The climate of Kandy is tropical, hot all year round, though tempered by the altitude. There is no real dry season, however, there is a relatively dry period from January to March, and a very rainy period from October to December.

Kandy, also known as Maha Nuvara or Senkadagalapura, is a city of 125,000 inhabitants, located in central Sri Lanka, in the Central Province, of which it is the capital, on a plateau at 500 meters (1,650 feet) above sea level.
To the northeast are the Knuckles Mountains (or Dumbara), whose highest peak, Gombaniya, reaches 1,906 meters (6,253 feet).

Sri Lanka is in the path of tropical cyclones. Typically, on the Indian Ocean north of the Equator, cyclones occur from April to December, although Sri Lanka is usually only affected in November and December, and more rarely in May. In fact, usually in mid-May, sometimes there can be heavy rains, caused by cyclones that form in the Bay of Bengal, even if they are at the beginning of their life. However, since the sea is warm all year round, in theory they can also form from January to March, perhaps in a light form (such as tropical storms).

Best Time

The best months to visit Kandy and central Sri Lanka are February and March, as they are the driest months of the year.
In April, the month in which the sun passes at the zenith, there is a certain increase in rainfall.
Around mid-May, as mentioned, a cyclone can form over the Bay of Bengal, which can bring heavy rains to the whole of Sri Lanka, which can cause landslides and floods in the central and mountainous areas. So this period, more or less from May 10 to 20, can be avoided.
In summer, the period of the southwest monsoon, after all, it does not rain very much, around 100 mm (4 in) per month, so much so that the Buddhist festival of Esala Perahera is held for 10 nights in a row in July or August.
The worst period is from October to December, as it is the rainiest.
