Climate chart - Torrevieja
The climate of Torrevieja is Mediterranean, with mild, relatively rainy winters and hot, sunny summers. The rains are scarce.
The city is located on the southeastern Spanish coast, in the province of Alicante, in the Valencian community. Nearby are the lagoons of la Mata and Torrevieja, two salt lakes that contribute to making the climate mild.

The average temperature of the coldest month (January) is of 12.2 °C (54 °F), that of the warmest month (August) is of 26.8 °C (80 °F).

Precipitation amounts to 280 millimeters (11 inches) per year. Although it is an arid area, it may on occasion be affected by heavy rains, which can lead to flooding, especially in autumn, but sometimes also in spring. For example, between 12 and 13 September 2019, there was the same amount of rain as usually falls in a year.

Winter, from December to February, is a mild season, and it's characterized by sunny periods alternating with periods of bad weather, with wind and rain, which, however, are quite rare.
There is a good number of sunny days, with daytime temperatures reaching 18/20 °C (64/68 °F) even in winter. With the wind from Africa, it can instead exceed 20 °C (68 °F). In January 2004, it reached 26 °C (79 °F), and in early February 2020, as high as 28.5 °C (83.5 °F).
Very cold days are rare, however, there may be periods, usually short, in which the night temperature drops to freezing (0 °C or 32 °F) or a little below, while it fluctuates around 8/10 °C (46/50 °F) during the day. In these periods, the cold is felt, also because houses are often poorly heated.
The coldest record is -3.5 °C (25.5 °F) and was recorded in February 1956. From 2000 to 2020, the extreme minimum has been was -1 °C (30 °F), recorded in January 2006.
Snow in Torrevieja is extremely rare. In January 2017, it snowed for the first time in 103 years.

The summer, from June to mid-September, is hot and sunny. During the day the breeze blows, providing some relief, but the nights are muggy. There can also be very hot periods, usually of short duration, in which the temperature reaches 35/36 °C (95/97 °F). More rarely, it can reach higher values, for example, it reached 39.5 °C (103 °F) in July 2015.
