Segovia, where it's located

The climate of Segovia is slightly continental, with moderately cold winters and hot, sunny summers, though with cool nights.
The city is located at an altitude of 1,000 meters (3,300 feet), about 70 km (43 mi) north-west of Madrid. Compared to the Spanish capital, Segovia is colder not only because it is located at a higher altitude, but also because it is located north of the Sierra de Guadarrama, the mountain range that partly protects Madrid from cold winds. Just 15 km (9 mi) from Segovia is Mount Peñalara, the highest peak of the chain with its 2,428 meters (7,966 feet).
The average temperature of the coldest month (January) is of 4.3 °C (40 °F), that of the warmest month (July) is of 22.2 °C (72 °F). Here are the average temperatures.

Precipitation amounts to 475 millimeters (18.7 inches) per year: it is therefore quite scarce. It ranges from 15 mm (0.6 in) in the driest month (July) to 65 mm (2.6 in) in the wettest (May). Here is the average precipitation.

The winter, from December to February, is quite cold, with rainy periods, but also sunny periods.
There may also be very cold periods. On the coldest days of the year, the temperature typically drops to -7/-8 °C (18/19 °F). The coldest record is -15 °C (5 °F) and dates back to January 1971. From 2000 to 2020, the temperature dropped to -13 °C (8.5 °F) in March 2005.
Unlike in Madrid, snowfalls in Segovia are not newsworthy, as they generally occur every year.

The summer, from June to August, is hot and sunny, with rare thunderstorms.
At night, it is often cool, and the temperature can drop below 10 °C (50 °F) even in July and August.
Sometimes, there may be very hot periods, in which the temperature can reach or exceed 35 °C (95 °F). The highest record is 39 °C (102 °F), recorded in July 1967. More recently, the temperature reached 38.5 °C (101.5 °F) in July 1995 and August 2003.

Best Time

The best time to visit Segovia runs from June to September, since it is the warmest and sunniest period of the year. Sometimes it can be hot, while in other circumstances, nights can be cool or even cold, so it can be useful to bring a sweatshirt or sweater and a light jacket for the evening, and maybe gloves and a wool hat, which take up little space and can be useful on colder nights.
If you fear the heat, you can choose the periods from mid-May to mid-June and from mid-September to mid-October.
