Climate chart - Jaen
The climate of Jaén can be defined as Mediterranean, even though the summer is particularly hot.
The city is located in southern Spain, in the interior of Andalusia, at 570 meters (1,870 feet) above sea level. To the south are the mountains of the Subbaetic System, while to the north is the betic depression. To the south-east is the Parque natural de Sierra Mágina.

The average temperature of the coldest month (January) is of 9 °C (48 °F), that of the warmest months (July and August) is of 27.5 °C (81.5 °F).

The winter, from December to February, is mild, with sunny periods alternating with rainy periods.
Despite the altitude, it rarely gets very cold, however, when cold air masses affect the south of Spain, there can be cold periods, with light frosts at night. In these cases, it can even snow from time to time.
The cold record is -8 °C (17.5 °F) and was recorded in February 1956 and in January 2005 (albeit in two different weather stations). However, the temperature drops below -5 °C (23 °F) very rarely (about once every ten years).

Summer, from June to mid-September, is hot and sunny, with very rare rains.
Highs are usually about 33/34 °C (93/95 °F) in July and August, however, there are periods of scorching heat. On the hottest days of the year, the temperature normally reaches 40/41 °C (104/106 °F).
The highest recorded temperature is 44.5 °C (112 °F), recorded in July 2017. In 2016, the temperature reached 41 °C (106 °F) in early September, while in 2006, it reached 38 °C (100.5 °F) in mid-May.
Fortunately, however, the air is dry.

Jaén

Best Time

The best times to visit Jaén are the months of April and May and from mid-September to mid-October, to avoid the summer heat, although in these periods it can sometimes rain. Those who can stand the heat can also choose the summer, but they have to be prepared to stroll around the city with scorching heat.
