Average weather, temperature, rainfall, sunshine hours
The climate of Cadiz is
Mediterranean, with mild, relatively rainy winters and warm, sunny summers.
The city is located in the extreme south of Spain, on the Atlantic coast of Andalusia (called Costa de la Luz). Due to its location on a small island, a short distance from the coast, it has a particularly mild microclimate. On the other hand, the city is quite windy.
On the other side of the bay, we find the cities of El Puerto de Santa María, Puerto Real and San Fernando.
The
average temperature of the coldest month (January) is of 12.7 °C (55 °F), that of the warmest month (August) is of 25 °C (77 °F). Here are the average temperatures.

The
winter, from December to February, is mild. There are some periods of bad weather, but also many sunny days.
It rarely gets very cold, and as we have mentioned, the city has a mild microclimate. The temperature almost never drops below freezing. The cold record is -1.5 °C (29 °F), recorded in January 1945 and January 1946. In February 1956, the temperature dropped to -1 °C (30 °F). From 2000 to 2020, it only dropped to 0 °C (32 °F) in January 2005 (when it dropped to -4.5 °C or 24 °F in the nearby city of Rota).
Given these premises, it is not surprising that snow in Cadiz is extremely rare, so much so that it is one of the least snowy cities in Europe. The last time it snowed was in February 1954, when the snow even whitened Tangier, Morocco, while in Cadiz there was no accumulation.
The
summer, from mid-June to mid-September, is warm and sunny. The ocean breeze protects the city from the scorching heat that often plagues the interior of Andalusia. Sometimes there are quite cool days, with highs around 24/25 °C, even in July and August.
However, there can also be hot and muggy periods. On average, the temperature exceeds 30 °C (86 °F) for 27 days a year, but exceeds 35 °C (95 °F) for only two days. The heat record is 43 °C (109.5 °F), recorded in August 1982, however, the temperature very rarely reaches even 40 °C (109 °F), and from 2000 to 2020, it reached a maximum of 38 °C (100.5 °F).

Best Time
The
best period to visit the city of Cadiz is late spring, from mid-April to mid-June. However, since it's usually not too hot in summer, you can also choose this season, bearing in mind that, if you want to combine the trip with an excursion to the interior of Andalusia, you will find intense heat, especially in inland areas (therefore, in this case, you can choose April, May and October, as we recommended for Seville). Autumn is mild, but there can be rainy periods, as well as in winter.
The best time for a beach holiday is summer, from mid-June to mid-September. It's better to bring a sweatshirt or sweater for cool and windy evenings, especially in June, but for safety, also in July and August, especially if you are sensitive to cold.
