The climate of Lephalale (or Ellisras) is sub-tropical semi-arid, tempered by altitude, with a very hot, relatively rainy season from November to March and a long dry season from April to October, within which there is a relatively cool period from May to August. In the latter, at night the temperature can drop to about freezing. During the day, it can get very hot all year round, but especially from September to March.
The city is located in the north of the Republic of South Africa, at 820 meters (2,700 feet) above sea level, near the border with Botswana.
