The climate of Nova Gorica is moderately continental, with quite cold, damp winters and hot, muggy summers.
The city is located on the border with Italy (beyond the border we find the city of Gorizia), in the plain, but in the vicinity of hills and low mountains.
In winter, the bora, the cold wind from the plains of Eastern Europe, can blow. During cold spells, the temperature can drop to -7/-8 °C (18/19 °F) or even below.
In summer, there can be very hot periods, in which the temperature can reach or exceed 35 °C (95 °F).

The best period to visit Nova Gorica is that of spring and early summer, and in particular, from mid-April to mid-June. September, too, is a good month. However, you have to take into account some rainy days in both periods.
