The climate of Celje is moderately continental, with cold winters and quite warm summers.
The city is located in the central-eastern part of Slovenia, at an altitude of 240 meters (785 feet).
Precipitation is abundant, and although winter is the driest season, there can sometimes be heavy snowfalls. During the most intense cold spells, the temperature can drop to -20 °C (-4 °F) or even below. The cold record is -24 °C (-11 °F), set in January 2003.
Summer is quite warm, with nights usually cool. The sun shines quite often, although thunderstorms can break out, even of strong intensity.
