The climate of Poprad, a city in northern Slovakia located at 700 meters (2,300 feet) above sea level and at the foot of the High Tatras, is moderately continental, characterized by cold winters, with temperatures often below freezing (0 °C or 32 °F), and mild summers.
Winter is cold and gray. Snowfalls are quite frequent, but generally not abundant.
Sometimes there can be cold spells, in which the temperature can drop down to -20 °C (-4 °F) or even below. The coldest record is -29 °C (-20.2 °F) and was set in January 1987 and in February 2012.
In summer, temperatures are pleasant and suitable for outdoor activities, although sometimes there can be rains and thunderstorms, and it can get very cool at night due to altitude.
Occasionally (but less than in Bratislava and in the lowlands), there may be brief hot periods, with highs that can exceed 30 °C (86 °F). The highest record is 34.8 °C (94.6 °F) and was set in July 2007.

Poprad

The best time to visit Poprad runs from June to August, since it is the mildest and sunniest period of the year.
