Climate chart - Vladivostok
The climate of Vladivostok is cold continental, with very cold, dry winters and warm, rainy summers.

Vladivostok is a city of 600,000 inhabitants, the landing point of the Trans-Siberian railway, located in south-eastern Asiatic Russia (Siberia), on a small peninsula (called Muravyov-Amursky) on the Sea of Japan (or East Sea), and at 43 degrees north latitude. The city is the capital of the Primorsky Krai (region).
About 35 km (22 mi) to the northeast, near the city of Artëm, is the airport.
About 55 km (55 mi) to the west is the border with China, while 130 km (80 mi) to the southwest is the border with North Korea. There is also a point where the three countries meet.
We are in the southernmost area of all of Siberia, despite this, the winter is very cold, due to the prevalence of northern currents.
Furthermore, the wind blows often, both in winter and summer.

Precipitation is moderate, amounting to about 850 millimeters (33.5 inches) per year, furthermore, it is concentrated in the warm period, from May to September, with a maximum in July and August, due to the Asian monsoon, which brings humid air from the seas around China and Japan, while in winter, the cold but dry currents from north-eastern Siberia prevail.
In fact, in summer, Vladivostok is the rainiest city in Siberia.

Winter, from November to March, is very cold: the average temperature in January is around -12 °C (10.5 °F). However, as is typical in southeastern Siberia and northeastern China, the winter is dry and sunny. For this reason, snowfall is quite rare and generally not abundant.
During cold waves, the temperature drops below -20 °C (-4 °F) every year. The coldest record is -31.4 °C (-24.5 °F), set in January 1931. The last time the temperature dropped to -30 °C (-22 °F) was in January 1970.

Summer, from June to August, is mild to warm, but also rainy and foggy. Rainfall is frequent. Due to the delay in sea warming, the warmest month is August, with an average of 20.5 °C (69 °F).
Due to its location on a peninsula, the city is somewhat protected from heat waves, although there can be hot and muggy periods. On the hottest days of the year the temperature usually reaches 29/30 °C (84/86 °F), and rarely exceeds this value. In late July 2021, the temperature reached 33 °C (91.5 °F).

In Vladivostok the sea, very cold in winter, unlike the rest of Siberia warms up a lot in summer, so that it becomes almost acceptable for swimming, especially in August.

Occasionally, in August and September, Vladivostok and the surrounding area can be affected by typhoons, the tropical cyclones of south-east Asia, although they arrive weakened compared to when they hit China and Japan.
