Climate chart - Tomsk
The climate of Tomsk is continental, with very cold winters, during which the temperature is normally below freezing, and warm summers.

Tomsk is a city of 575,000 inhabitants, the capital of the oblast' of the same name, located in Russia, in south-western Siberia, and at 56 degrees north latitude. The Tom River, from which the city takes its name, flows into the Ob River about 45 km (28 mi) to the north.

Precipitation is not abundant, since it amounts to about 580 millimeters (23 inches) per year. The rainiest season is summer.
Furthermore, due to the distance from all seas and the absence of obstacles for air masses, the climate is characterized by temperature swings.

Winter, from November to March, is very cold: the average temperature in January is about -17.5 °C (0.5 °F). The sky is often cloudy, and light snow often falls. The ground is usually covered in snow.
During cold spells, the temperature drops below -35 °C (-31 °F) almost every year, and quite often below -40 °C (-40 °F). The coldest record is -55 °C (-67 °F), set in January 1931. Subsequently, the temperature dropped to -50 °C (-58 °F) in December 1938 and to -51.3 °C (-60.3 °F) in February 1951.
In January 1969, the monthly daily average was -29.3 °C (-20.7 °F).

Summer, from June to August, is quite warm and sunny, even though rains and thunderstorms are quite frequent. The average in July is around 19.5 °C (67 °F).
Sometimes there can be heatwaves, during which the temperature can reach 35 °C (95 °F). The highest record is 35.6 °C (96.1 °F), set in June 2023 and July 2014.
