Average weather, temperature, rainfall, sunshine hours

In Turaif the climate is
desert, with quite mild winters, though decidedly colder than in the rest of Saudi Arabia, and very hot, sunny summers. Precipitation is rare and almost all occurs from October to April, while in summer it never rains.
The city is located in the far north of Saudi Arabia, in the Northern Borders province (
al-Hudud al-Shamaliyya), near the border with Jordan, at 850 meters (2,800 feet) above sea level and at almost 32 degrees north latitude.
We are in the
Syrian desert, the coldest area of Saudi Arabia. In fact, in the Köppen classification, the climate of Turaif falls within the hot desert climate (BWh), like the rest of the country, but is not far from the cold desert climate (BWk), given that the average annual temperature is 19.4 °C (67 °F), while the threshold between the two climate subtypes is 18 °C (64.5 °F).
Winter, from December to February, is mild during the day, but it is often cold at night. Furthermore, cold waves may occur, during which there may be frosts. Every now and then it can even snow. In January 1992 and January 2008, the temperature dropped to -8 °C (17.5 °F).
Summer, from June to September, is very hot and sunny, although much of Saudi Arabia is even hotter. However, there are periods, sometimes quite long, with highs of 40 °C (104 °F) and more. The record is 45 °C (113 °F).
