Climate chart - Jizan
In Jizan (also spelled as Gizan or Jazan), the climate is desert, hot even in winter, from December to February, and very hot in the rest of the year, with a daily average above 30 °C (86 °F) from April to October.
The city is located in the far south of Saudi Arabia, on the Red Sea coast, almost 17 degrees north latitude and 60 kilometers (37 miles) from the border with Yemen.
To the west, a short distance from the coast, there are coral islands, the Farasan Islands.
To the east, on the other hand, are the Fifa (or Faifa) mountains, which reach 1,428 metres (4,685 feet), and the Asir mountains, which exceed 2,000 metres (6,500 feet), where rains and thunderstorms form almost every day in summer. Sometimes a bit of rain can even reach the coast, in fact, in Jizan, August is the rainiest month, although with only 30 millimeters (1.2 inches) on average. Sometimes, thunderstorms with lightning can occur, even without rain. In summer, the amount of sunshine decreases a bit as well.

Jizan

In winter, the cool air from the north, which can affect the central-northern part of the Red Sea, arrives here weakened or not at all. Typically, once every few years, the temperature drops to a minimum of 15/16 °C (59/61 °F) on the coolest nights, although in February 1993 it dropped to 12 °C (53.5 °F).
In summer, the combination of heat and humidity from the sea makes the heat very uncomfortable, with the north-west wind loaded with humidity after traveling across the Red Sea from northern Egypt.
The hottest days occur when the winds blow from the interior, and in these cases the temperature can exceed 40 °C (104 °F), from April to October, but at least the humidity decreases. In April 2014, the temperature reached 43.6 °C (110.5 °F).

When to go

The best time to visit Jizan is from December to February, being the least hot of the year, and with the sea warm enough to swim in even in this season.
