Weather and climate in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia)

In Jeddah (or Jeddah), the climate is desert (in the Köppen classification: hot desert climate - BWh), hot even in winter, from December to February, and very hot in the rest of the year, with a daily average above 30 °C (86 °F) from May to October.
The city is located in the west of Saudi Arabia, on the coast of the Red Sea, at 21 degrees north latitude, and is the largest city of the western province of the country, called Hejaz. To the east lies a mountain range parallel to the coast. About 65 kilometers (40 miles) to the south-east is Mecca.
The rains, which are very scarce, almost all fall from November to March. Every now and then, there may be a thundestorm more intense than usual, which can even cause a flash flood.
