The climate of Timisoara is continental, with cold winters and warm summers.
The city is located in the westernmost part of Romania, in the historical region of Banat, and a short distance from the border with Serbia.
In Winter, fog can form. Sometimes there can be cold spells, with lows of -15 °C (5 °F) or even below. After 1980, the coldest record is -25 °C (-13 °F), recorded in January 1987. From 2001 to 2020, the extreme minimum was -24 °C (-11 °F), recorded in January 2003.
