Average weather, temperature, rainfall, sunshine hours
The climate of Sulina is
slightly continental, with cold winters and hot summers.
The city is located in the far east of Romania, on the Black Sea coast and in the Danube delta area, where there is a mild and arid microclimate, though windy. We are in the sunniest area of Romania.
The climate is milder than in other cities in Romania, however, the
winter is cold, because the Black Sea is not very large, and in winter it cools down a lot under the influence of cold air masses from Russia. During the coldest winters, the sea can even freeze.
In these situations, there is a delay in the spring warming, so it is still cold in March, but sometimes even in April.
On the coldest nights of the year, the temperature typically drops below -10 °C (14 °F). The record is -20 °C (-4 °F), recorded in January 2006.
The
summer is warm and sunny, with rare rain.
In the Danube delta, it rarely gets hot, even though, on the other hand, the humidity is high. The record heat is only 34.5 °C (94 °F), recorded in August 2010.
Best Time
The
best time to visit Sulina runs from May to September, since it is the warmest and sunniest of the year.
