The climate of Iasi is continental, with cold winters and warm summers.
The city is located in the north-east of Romania, a short distance from Moldova.
Winter is cold and gray, with snowfalls and frosts. Sometimes fog can form.
During cold spells, which occur every year, the temperature drops to -17/-18 °C (0/1 °F) or below. The coldest record is -30.5 °C (-23 °F), recorded in January 1963. From 2001 to 2020, the extreme minimum was -27 °C (-16.5 °F), recorded in January 2010.
Summer is warm and sunny, though thunderstorms can break out in the afternoon. Nights are usually cool.
While it is generally not too hot, there can be very hot periods, in which the temperature reach or exceed 35 °C (95 °F). The record heat is 41.5 °C (106.5 °F), recorded in August 2012.
