The climate of Iasi is continental, with cold winters and warm summers.
The city is located in the north-east of Romania, a short distance from Moldova.
Winter is cold and gray, with snowfalls and frosts. Sometimes fog can form.
During cold spells, which occur every year, the temperature drops to -17/-18 °C (0/1 °F) or below. The coldest record is -30.5 °C (-23 °F), recorded in January 1963. From 2001 to 2020, the extreme minimum was -27 °C (-16.5 °F), recorded in January 2010.
