The climate of Bacau is continental, with cold winters and warm summers.
The city is located in the eastern part of Romania, in the historical region of Moldavia.
Winter is cold and gray, with snowfalls and frosts. Sometimes fog can form.
During cold spells, which occur every year, the temperature drops to -17/-18 °C (0/1 °F) or below. The coldest record is -31 °C (-24 °F), recorded in January 1963. From 2001 to 2020, the extreme minimum was -26 °C (-15 °F), recorded in January 2010.
