The climate of Bragança is
slightly continental, with moderately cold winters and hot, sunny summers, though with cool nights.
The city is located in the extreme north-east of Portugal, at an altitude of 670 meters (2,200 feet). Temperatures are similar to those of the northern part of the Spanish plateau (see for example Valladolid), while the rains are more abundant.
The
winter, from December to February, is quite cold. At night, the temperature often drops below freezing, moreover, in periods of good weather, fog can form.
Sometimes, there may also be
very cold periods.

The coldest record is -12 °C (10.4 °F) and was set in January 1945.
Snowfalls in Bragança are quite frequent. Along with Guarda, which is further south but at 1,000 meters (3,300 feet) above sea level, Bragança is the snowiest city in Portugal.
The
summer, from June to August, is warm to hot during the day, but with cool nights. The sun often shines, although there may be some rain or thunderstorms, especially in June. Sometimes at night, it can get cold even in July and August.
From mid-June to early September, there can sometimes be
very hot periods, usually of short duration. On the hottest days of the year, the temperature usually reaches 36/37 °C (97/99 °F). The record heat is 39.5 °C (103 °F), recorded in August 2003 and August 2018. In 2016, the temperature reached 38 °C (100.5 °F) in early September.
