The climate of Évora is
Mediterranean, with mild, relatively rainy winters and hot, sunny summers.
The city is located in the south-east of Portugal, at an altitude of 300 meters (1,000 ft), in the Alentejo Central. We are in the area that in summer is the hottest of the country (because in the far south, in Algarve, the climate is mitigated by the ocean).
Winter, from December to February, is mild.
There are many sunny days, in which the air is mild during the day, but it can get cold at night. On the coldest nights of the year, the temperature typically drops to around 0 °C (32 °F). Also, in periods of good weather, fog can form at night and in the early morning.
However, there are also periods of bad weather, with wind and rain.
Snow in Évora is very rare, however, snowfalls occurred in February 1993, January 2006 and January 2009. The lowest record is -4 °C (25 °F), recorded in January 2005.
Summer, from June to mid-September, is hot and sunny, with very rare rains.
Highs are usually about 33/33.5 °C (91/92 °F) in July and August, however, there are periods of scorching heat. Together with Beja, Évora is often the hottest city in Portugal. There are 32 days with more than 35 °C (95 °F) per year. From June to September, the temperature can sometimes reach and exceed 40 °C (104 °F).
The highest record is 45.4 °C (113.7 °F), recorded in August 2018. In August 2003, the temperature had reached 44.5 °C (112 °F).
Fortunately, after sunset the temperature drops a lot, so much so that nights are often cool even in midsummer.
