In Juliaca, there is a subtropical semi-arid mountain climate, with a rainy period from December to March and a dry period from May to September, the austral winter, when night temperatures also decrease, often falling below the freezing point. Daytime temperatures, on the other hand, are quite stable throughout the year, although they increase a bit in spring, October and November.
The city is located in the south-east of Peru, in the department of Puno, on the Andean plateau, at 3,800 meters (12,465 feet) above sea level and 15 degrees south latitude. About 20 km (12 mi) to the southeast is Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world, split between Peru and Bolivia. Beyond the lake we find La Paz, the capital of Bolivia. The climate of Juliaca is similar to that of the upper part of La Paz, which is located on the same plateau.
