Climate in Hyderabad (Pakistan)

The climate of Hyderabad is subtropical desert, with a short period, from December to February, in which the temperatures are not too high, while the rest of the year is very hot. The rare rains are concentrated from July to September, in the period of the Indian monsoon, even though we are on the edge of the area that is affected.
The city is located in southern Pakistan, in the Sindh province, along the Indus River, at 25 degrees north latitude.
In winter, from December to February, nights are cool, and can sometimes be cold when cold air comes from the north. Generally the temperature drops to 4/5 °C (39/41 °F) on colder nights, although in February 2012 it dropped to 1.5 °C (34.5 °F).
The hottest time of the year is from April to June, when there can be intense heat waves. The temperature reached 48.5 °C (119.3 °F) in May 2016, 47 °C (116.5 °F) in April 2002 and in June 2011, and 46 °C (115 °F) in April 2017 and May 2018.
From July to September, the Indian monsoon period, a moderate wind often blows, which reduces the sensation of heat. The rains are rare, but at times they can be intense, resulting in floods.



Hyderabad is exposed to the risk of tropical cyclones, which can bring abundant rains outside the monsoon period, although the risk is greatest in Karachi and on the coast. Cyclones form from May to November, and are more frequent and intense at the beginning of the period (mid-May-early June) and less at the end (October), while from July to September, when the monsoon is at the height of activity in India, they generally do not occur. In November, they typically affect the southern part of India and the Arabian Peninsula, but do not reach Pakistan. Particularly intense cyclones hit Pakistan in May 1999 and in June 2010 (the latter was called cyclone Phet).
