The climate of Gaya is tropical, hot all year round, with a dry season from October to April and a rainy season from May to September.
The city is located in the extreme southwest of Niger, at 180 meters (590 feet) above sea level, on the banks of the Niger River, beyond which lies Benin. Not too far to the south-east is Nigeria. We are in the rainiest area of Niger.
During the day it can get very very hot all year round, but especially from March to May, before the rainy season. In the dry period, the harmattan, the dust-laden wind of the Sahara desert, can blow.
