Campbell Island has a subpolar maritime climate, cold, rainy and windy all year round.
Campbell Island is located 600 km (370 mi) south of the South Island of New Zealand and at 52 degrees south latitude, and is an uninhabited island. Inland, there are hills that reach 570 meters (1,870 ft) in height. Nearby are a few islets and rocky reefs, including Dent Island.

In winter, from June to August, but sometimes also in May, September and October, there can be snow and frost. The coldest record is -7.9 °C (17.8 °F) and was set in June 1996. However, cold air irruptions from Antarctica can also occur in summer, in fact the temperature can drop to 0 °C (32 °F) even in January.
In the summer, however, there may also be short, very mild periods. The highest record is 21.2 °C (70.2 °F) and was set in February 2023.
