Climate chart - Chihuahua
In Chihuahua, there is a temperate semi-arid climate, mild in winter, but with cold nights, and hot in summer.
The city of Chihuahua is located in northern Mexico, at 1,400 meters (4,600 feet) above sea level, and gave its name not only to the Mexican state, but also to the desert of the central plateau of Mexico, which also extends to the United States, and is characterized by cold nights in winter, and some rains, in the form of afternoon thunderstorms, from July to September.
In winter, the air is generally mild during the day, but at night the temperature drops rapidly, and can drop to a few degrees below freezing. Sometimes there may be cold periods lasting a few days, in which the minimum drops down to -7/-8 °C (18/19 °F), and in which it can even snow. Occasionally, there may also be freezing cold snaps. One of the worst occurred in February 2011, when the temperature dropped to -18 °C (-0.5 °F).
In summer, June is generally the hottest month, but in July and August the humidity increases slightly, making the heat a little more muggy. On warmer days, generally in May and sometimes in June, the temperature reaches 39/40 °C (102/104 °F).
