The climate of San is tropical, with a relatively cool season from December to mid-February and a rainy season that runs roughly from June to September. The hottest time of the year goes from March to May, before the rains arrive.
The city is located in southern Mali, near the border with Burkina Faso, at 290 meters (950 feet) above sea level. The Bani River flows a few kilometers further north.
In winter, the Harmattan, the dust-laden wind of the Sahara, can blow.
