The climate of Bamako is tropical, hot all year round, with a dry season from November to April and a rainy season that runs roughly from June to September. The hottest period is from March to May, before the rains arrive.
The city is the capital of Mali and is located in the south-west of the country, at 330 meters (1,080 feet) above sea level, on the banks of the Niger River. We are in the area of the country that receives the greatest amount of rain from the African monsoon, that is, where rainfall is equal to or greater than 1,000 millimeters (40 inches) per year.
