The climate of Antsiranana is tropical, hot all year round, with a relatively cool, dry period from June to August and a hot, rainy period from November to March.
The city (called Diego-Suarez until 1975) is located in the extreme north of Madagascar, in the Diana region, of which it is the capital, and at 12 degrees south latitude, on a stretch of coast overlooking a bay.
